In seventh grade, fueled by youthful ambition (and possibly a hint of naiveté), a friend and I borrowed money from our parents.
With nothing but determination and a few borrowed DJing tools, we began on a journey that would teach us invaluable lessons in business and self-confidence.
Our approach was straightforward yet bold – we plastered ads around town and knocked on doors, pitching our DJing services.
To our surprise, people expressed interest and were willing to pay what appeared to be exorbitant rates at the time. From spinning tunes at the community center's "Club Fridays" to entertaining at children's birthday parties, our schedule quickly filled up.
But it wasn't all smooth sailing. As our gigs expanded to include weddings and bar mitzvahs, doubts crept in. Imposter syndrome reared its head, whispering doubts about our capabilities.
Yet, amidst the uncertainty, we learned a crucial lesson – the importance of professionalism and honoring commitments.
Charging what we believed was a fair market rate, even when it felt audacious, instilled confidence in our worth. We discovered that professionalism transcends self-doubt; as long as we delivered on our promises, clients recognized and rewarded the value we provided.
Looking back, those early DJing days were more than just gigs; they were a crash course in entrepreneurship.
Through perseverance and a willingness to confront imposter syndrome head-on, we navigated the uncertainties of business, emerging stronger and more self-assured.
